We start the conference with an opening plenary on nonviolence and the social and spiritual foundations for nonviolent living, followed by a community "Interfaith Prayer and Reflection" service in the "heart of Eugene." This heart-opening celebration of diverse human spiritualities will be held at the lovely sanctuary of First Christian Church. Friday is packed with workshops, inspirational addresses, and moments for reflection and care, culminating in an evening presentation by Marshall Rosenberg at the annual Eugene Celebration (downtown) and a keynote address by the Rev. C. T. Vivian, friend and strategist of Dr. Martin Luther King. Saturday begins with trainings, workshops and panels that inform, inspire and cultivate skills for nonviolence in our inner lives and outward relations. Dozens of options are available throughout the day. Also, Saturday brings a unique opportunity to hear two great nonviolent activists from two movements in North America - the Civil Rights and the Environmental Justice movement - across two generations, speak to the trajectories of nonviolence across movements and generations. This rap between Julia Butterfly Hill and Rev. C.T. Vivian is a must to hear! Julia Butterfly Hill, whose love and nonviolent convictions supported her for two years in the branches of Luna, an ancient redwood whose life spans hundreds of years, will also share a collaborative keynote panel on Saturday evening. Sunday wraps things up with plenaries and coordinating councils to cultivate connection and support for nonviolent living beyond the conference.
In addition to the two days of trainings in NVC offered by Marshall Rosenberg during the confrence, Dr. Rosenberg will also offer a preconference training in NVC on Thurs., Sept. 11 and a post conference training beginning at noon on Sunday, September 14th.
